Terms & Conditions

Establishment of an account with Checkmate Home & Living (Pty)Ltd. constitutes agreement and acknowledgement of the following terms and conditions of sale.

Ordering

All purchase orders shall be submitted to your area sales rep for transmission to Checkmate Home & Living. We cannot accept purchase orders faxed or emailed directly to Checkmate Home & Living. Orders for custom pieces (non-line items) are handled by Checkmate Home & Living directly, in-house.

50% deposit is required for all custom orders, with a lead-time of 4-8 weeks from receipt of deposit.

Payment

All orders must be paid before shipping, either by credit card, cash, or bank wire. Checkmate Home & Living does not offer Net terms.

Pricing

Pricing is subject to change without notice. We cannot give pricing information by telephone. Your sales rep can provide current pricing information.

Samples

Finish samples are available from your sales rep and our showroom

Finish Colors

Product photographs are an approximation in terms of finish color. Furthermore, finishes can vary, in some cases significantly.

Quick-Ship and Upholstered Goods

All wood pieces listed as “Quick-Ship” are guaranteed to ship within 4-8 weeks from factories receipt of order. All upholstered pieces listed as “Quick-Ship” are guaranteed to ship within 6-10 weeks from factories receipt of order. All pertinent information including finish must be supplied for the order to be processed.

Shipping

All orders are shipped with blanket or plastic-wrap carriers. Detailed information about shipping to your specific location is available from your sales rep.

Damages & Claims

Checkmate Home & Living (Pty)Ltd. is NOT responsible for freight damages. All items are carefully inspected by our staff and respective shipping company before shipping. You or your receiving agent MUST INSPECT each item upon delivery and any damages must be clearly noted on the carrier’s bill of lading before the driver leaves your location. If the damage is severe and you feel that it cannot be easily fixed, please do not accept those specific pieces.

Please contact us immediately so that we can help make sure that everything is taken care of promptly and thoroughly. If damages are not noted at the time of delivery than we have no recourse with our carriers and no claims will be honored.

Knots, gouges, cracks and nail holes are inherent characteristics of many of our wood products and do not constitute damage/defects, no claims will be considered for these characteristics. The majority of our products are made from reclaimed fir acquired from torn-down houses and reclaimed oak from old barns and box cars.

Warranty

Checkmate Home & Living (Pty)Ltd. guarantees its product to be free from defects of workmanship. Due to environmental elements and relative humidity, wood will sometimes expand and shrink. We take great care to construct our furniture in a manner that allows the wood to shrink and expand. Under drastic temperature changes, cracks may sometimes appear; however, this is a very rare occurrence. Damage claims of this nature will be assessed on an individual basis if they are received within three months. We do NOT accept returns without written authorization from our head office. Due to the nature of handcrafted products, dimensions, details and /or colors represented in our catalogs may vary. The antique/one of a kind product may vary significantly.

Processes

  1. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Refunds:

  1. No refunds are allowed.

Exchanges

Gifts

  1. If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit for the value of your return. Once the returned item is received, a gift certificate will be mailed to you.

  2. If the item wasn’t marked as a gift when purchased, or the gift giver had the order shipped to themselves to give to you later, we will send a refund to the gift giver and they will find out about your return.

Shipping returns

  2. You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund.

  3. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you may vary.

  4. If you are returning more expensive items, you may consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We don’t guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
